لقد أشتكى الناس من شدة الخليفة عمر بن الخطاب عليهم وكانوا يهابون التحدث إليه فى هذا الأمر حتى الصحابة الكبار أنفسهم ولأنه كان حاكم عادل لا يحكم إلا بالحق بشرعية الله فى الدين الإسلامى الحنيف فإختاروا لهذا الأمر عبد الرحمن بن عوف لأنه كان صديقه منذ الطفولة لكى يكلمة أن يلين مع الناس فذهب إيه عبد الرحمن وقال له : ألا ألنت فقال عمر :والله يا عبدالرحمن لقد ألنت مع الناس حتى خفت الله فى اللين وأشتددت على الناس حتى خفت الله فى الشدة ..فأخبرنى ماذا أفعل فبكى الأثنان وقال عبدالرحمن وهى يغادر : أوف لهم من بعدك ثلاث مرات وقد حدثت الفتنة بعد عمر بن الخطاب بفعل اليهودى الأصل عبدالله بن سبأ
